And the beat goes on

Well my head has finally stopped spinning after yesterday’s whirlwind of a keynote by Steve Jobs. Please visit Macworld and Apple‘s site to get all the glorious details!

As for my take on the day…

New colors for the Shuffle – good.

Big screen and video for the Nano’s – Wow!

iPod Classic. 80 and 160 gigs wrapped in silver or black aluminum cases – its on the X-mas list!

These iPod Classics are the most tempting for me. I would love to have more space for my ever expanding music library. My 60 gig 5th gen black iPod is not quite full, but it is getting close (all music, no video). The new Nano looks amazing. The buzz kill for me is the limited storage.

Then there is the iPod Touch – we all saw that coming. Although the wireless Internet was a nice surprise. This is the product that a lot of people were waiting for after the iPhone came out.

Apple was on a roll and did not stop with new iPod models. They also dropped the price for an iPhone by $200!! Now I have read a lot of the Mac forums where pissed off first-day iPhone owners were complaining about the price drop. I was lucky enough to get 8 gig and 4 gig iPhones on the first day. While it would have been nice to save $400, it is the price for being the first kid on the block. Sure it will sting for a little while, but I will get over it. I will admit though, the iPhone was the first Apple product I got on release day, and I will be a little more cautious pulling out my credit card for the next “great” gadget. Apple seems to be updated their products at a much more rapid pace. But that is enough bitching for one post.

Out of the whole keynote I think I will most likely benefit from the new iTunes features of ring tones and wireless purchasing from my iPhone. I do not have all the details on the ring tone maker just yet. It sounds like I have to purchase a song first and then pay $0.99 to convert it to a ring tone. I have made my own ring tones before, but I found the process a little drawn out. So I will be glad to pay $1.98 for a easy – lifelong – ring tone. (I hated paying AT&T every year to renew my ring tones on my old Razr) If I could have one wish, it would be that I could use any song in my library (imported from CD) to make ring tones. As for the other new feature of the wireless iTunes shopping I will have to wait for Apple to release the iPhone update. :-(

It is another great day to be a Mac fan. I realized a few weeks ago that I have about 12 pieces of Apple hardware and one M$ office suite!! That cannot be healthy.
